Ingredients

Burger Patties

  • 1 tsp cumin
  • 1 tsp chili powder
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper adjust for spice preference
  • 1 large egg beaten
  • 1/2 cup bread crumbs preferably whole wheat
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
Toppings
  • 4 slices pepper jack cheese
  • 4 buns burger buns toasted
  • 1/2 cup chipotle mayo store-bought or homemade
  • 1 cup lettuce shredded
  • 1 medium tomato sliced
  • 1/2 cup jalapeños sliced, optional

Method

Prepare the Burger Mixture
  1. In a mixing bowl, combine ground turkey, cumin, chili powder, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne pepper, beaten egg, bread crumbs, salt, and black pepper. Mix until just combined.
  2. Form the mixture into 4 equal patties, making a slight indentation in the center of each to prevent puffing during cooking.
Grill the Burgers
  1. Preheat the grill to medium-high heat. Place the patties on the grill and cook for about 5-7 minutes on each side, or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C).
  2. During the last minute of cooking, place a slice of pepper jack cheese on each patty and close the grill lid to melt the cheese.
Assemble the Burgers
  1. Spread chipotle mayo on the bottom half of each toasted bun.
  2. Add the cooked turkey patty with melted cheese, followed by lettuce, tomato, and jalapeños if using. Top with the other half of the bun.
