Method
Prepare the Meat Sauce
- In a large skillet, brown the ground beef over medium heat. Drain excess fat.
- Add chopped onion and garlic, cooking until softened, about 5 minutes.
- Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 20 minutes.
Prepare the Ricotta Mixture
- In a mixing bowl, combine ricotta cheese, cooked spinach, beaten egg, Parmesan cheese, salt, and pepper. Mix well.
Assemble the Lasagna
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Spread a thin layer of meat sauce on the bottom of a 9x13 inch baking dish.
- Layer 3 lasagna noodles over the sauce, followed by half of the ricotta mixture, and a third of the mozzarella cheese.
- Repeat the layers: meat sauce, noodles, ricotta mixture, and mozzarella. Finish with remaining meat sauce and mozzarella on top.
- Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes until cheese is bubbly and golden.
Serve
- Let the lasagna cool for 10 minutes before slicing. Serve warm.
