Ingredients
  

  • 1 lb fresh cherries pitted
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 tsp almond extract
  • red food coloring optional

Method
 

  1. Wash and pit the fresh cherries.
  2. In a medium saucepan, combine sugar and water over medium heat until dissolved.
  3. Remove from heat; stir in almond extract and food coloring if using.
  4. Place cherries in sterilized jars; pour syrup over them until fully submerged.
  5. Seal jars tightly; let cool before refrigerating for at least five days.
