  1. In a large pot over medium heat, sauté the chopped onion in a splash of oil until softened. Add minced garlic and cook until fragrant.
  2. Stir in diced carrots before adding the ground beef. Cook until browned, breaking it apart as you stir.
  3. Pour in the beef broth, scraping any browned bits from the pot. Bring to a gentle simmer.
  4. Prepare the dumpling mix according to package instructions or combine flour, baking powder, milk, and butter until just mixed.
  5. Drop spoonfuls of dumpling mix into the simmering broth. Cover and steam for about 10 minutes without lifting the lid.
  6. Serve hot, garnished with fresh herbs.
