Ingredients
  

Dough
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour plus more for dusting
  • 1 packet active dry yeast about 2 1/4 teaspoons
  • 1 cup warm water about 110°F
  • 1 tablespoon sugar to activate yeast
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
Garlic Herb Mixture
  • 4 cloves garlic minced
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley chopped
  • 2 tablespoons fresh basil chopped
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
Topping
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil for brushing
  • 1 tablespoon sea salt for sprinkling
  • 1 tablespoon fresh herbs for garnish

Method
 

Prepare the Dough
  1. In a mixing bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. Add flour, salt, and olive oil. Mix until a dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour.
Prepare the Garlic Herb Mixture
  1. In a small bowl, mix together minced garlic, parsley, basil, oregano, salt, and pepper.
Shape the Bread
  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into three equal pieces.
  3. Roll each piece into a long rope, about 12 inches long.
  4. Spread the garlic herb mixture evenly over each rope.
  5. Braid the three ropes together and place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
Bake the Bread
  1. Brush the braided bread with olive oil and sprinkle with sea salt.
  2. Let it rise for another 20 minutes.
  3. Bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes or until golden brown.
  4. Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before serving.
