- In a large bowl, mash the black beans until chunky.

- Mix the sautéed onion and garlic into the mashed beans along with breadcrumbs, cumin, chili powder, and egg. Stir until combined.
- Shape the mixture into patties about ½ inch thick.
- Cook the patties in a skillet over medium-high heat with oil for about 4 minutes on each side until golden brown.
