Prepare Brownie Base
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Line an 8x8 inch baking pan with parchment paper.
- In a mixing bowl, whisk together melted butter and sugar until smooth.
- Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition, then stir in vanilla extract.
- In a separate bowl, sift together flour, cocoa powder, salt, and baking powder.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring until just combined.
- Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and spread evenly.
- Bake for 25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
- Allow to cool completely in the pan before removing and cutting into squares.
Make Chocolate Ganache
- In a double boiler or microwave-safe bowl, heat the heavy cream until just simmering.
- Remove from heat and add chopped chocolate, stirring until smooth and glossy.
- Let the ganache cool slightly before pouring over the cooled brownie squares.
Assemble Petit Fours
- Once the ganache has set, cut the brownies into small squares or rectangles.
- Decorate with edible gold leaf or chocolate shavings as desired.
- Serve on a decorative platter and enjoy!
