Ingredients

Brownie Base
  • 1 cup unsalted butter melted
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
Chocolate Ganache
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 8 ounces semi-sweet chocolate chopped
Decoration
  • 1/4 cup edible gold leaf optional
  • 1/4 cup chocolate shavings for garnish

Method

Prepare Brownie Base
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Line an 8x8 inch baking pan with parchment paper.
  2. In a mixing bowl, whisk together melted butter and sugar until smooth.
  3. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition, then stir in vanilla extract.
  4. In a separate bowl, sift together flour, cocoa powder, salt, and baking powder.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring until just combined.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and spread evenly.
  7. Bake for 25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
  8. Allow to cool completely in the pan before removing and cutting into squares.
Make Chocolate Ganache
  1. In a double boiler or microwave-safe bowl, heat the heavy cream until just simmering.
  2. Remove from heat and add chopped chocolate, stirring until smooth and glossy.
  3. Let the ganache cool slightly before pouring over the cooled brownie squares.
Assemble Petit Fours
  1. Once the ganache has set, cut the brownies into small squares or rectangles.
  2. Decorate with edible gold leaf or chocolate shavings as desired.
  3. Serve on a decorative platter and enjoy!
