Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb. homemade rough puff pastry or store-bought frozen puff pastry (2 sheets)
  • 2 cups peeled & diced apples (about 2 medium apples)
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup granulated or brown sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tablespoon milk (any kind)
  • Optional: 1/2 cup salted caramel for drizzling

Instructions

  1. Prepare puff pastry: Roll out homemade dough or unroll store-bought dough on a floured surface and cut into squares.
  2. Cook apple filling: In a saucepan, combine diced apples, cornstarch, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and sugar over medium heat until bubbling. Simmer for 5 minutes; cool for 20 minutes.
  3. Assemble turnovers: Spoon apple filling onto each dough square, fold to form triangles, crimp edges, and chill in the fridge for at least 15 minutes.
  4. Preheat oven to 400°F (204°C) and prepare an egg wash by whisking together an egg and milk.
  5. Brush turnovers with egg wash and bake for 23-25 minutes until golden brown.
