  • 1 cup chopped sweet yellow onion
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 4 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 48 ounces marinara sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • ¼ teaspoon ground black pepper
  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese (divided)
  • 6 ounces shredded mozzarella cheese
  • ½ teaspoon dried oregano
  • Chopped fresh parsley (optional, for serving)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F.
  2. Cook rigatoni in salted boiling water until al dente. Drain without rinsing.
  3. In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium-high heat; sauté onions until softened (about 3 minutes).
  4. Add ground beef, cooking until browned (about 5 minutes). Drain excess grease if necessary.
  5. Stir in minced garlic for half a minute, then add marinara sauce, Italian seasoning, and black pepper. Simmer for about 10 minutes.
  6. Combine cooked rigatoni with the sauce and stir in ¼ cup Parmesan cheese.
  7. Transfer mixture to a greased baking dish. Top with mozzarella, remaining Parmesan, and oregano.
  8. Cover with foil sprayed lightly on one side; bake covered for 25 minutes. Uncover and bake for an additional 5–10 minutes until bubbly and golden.
  9. Let rest for 5 minutes before serving; garnish with parsley if desired.
