Ingredients

Scale
  • 300 g all-purpose flour
  • 60 g granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 220 g unsalted butter (cold, cut into cubes)
  • 110 g cold water
  • 1 kg apples (Pink Lady, Royal Gala, or Fuji)
  • 75 g unsalted butter (for filling)
  • 190 g brown sugar
  • 1¼ tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1¼ tbsp cornstarch
  • ¼ tsp salt (for filling)
  • 2½ tbsp water (for filling)
  • Vanilla ice cream (or preferred flavor)

Instructions

  1. To make the crust, combine flour, granulated sugar, and salt in a bowl. Cut in cold butter until crumbly. Gradually add cold water until dough forms. Chill in the fridge.
  2. For the filling, peel and slice apples. Melt butter in a skillet over medium heat; add apples, brown sugar, cinnamon, cornstarch, salt, and water. Cook until apples are slightly soft.
  3. Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F). Roll out chilled dough; place half in pie dish and fill with apple mixture. Cover with remaining dough; seal edges.
  4. Brush top crust with egg wash made from whisked egg and water; sprinkle with brown sugar. Bake for about 80 minutes or until golden brown.
